Hills Grammar organised and hosted our second Think Tank workshop this week, which is an exciting development in the progression of this new network which we convene. Our very own, experienced Debating Coach, Ms Fiona Khoo presented this workshop for 28 students from the seven participating schools. We were also host to visiting teachers from the participating schools, as they engaged in professional development to enhance their own knowledge and skills in Debating as well as the strategies utilised to cater for high potential learners.

The students passionately engaged in animated discussions from the start of the day, commencing with a series of Making Thinking Visible routines to warm up their skills of persuasion. They quickly learned how to synthesise and rebut an argument and worked on convincing others that their perspective was the most reasonable!

Throughout the day, students worked in teams to apply their newly acquired debating skills in short debates. The winning teams went through to the Grand Final, where they demonstrated all of the skills and knowledge that they had learned throughout the day for visiting teachers and parents. The passionate and articulate arguments were a reflection of the deep learning that they engaged in throughout the day.

Congratulations to all participating students on a successful day of debating and thank you to Ms Khoo for sharing her expertise and passion with our students.
